Thank goodness Bob Melvin and The Milwaukee Brewers signed quality utility infielders this past off-season. It looks like Tony Graffanino and Craig Counsell are going to have to log some innings at third base since Corey Koskie looks like he won't be ready to go by early April.
I remember hearing some grumblings when the Brew signed both Graf and CC. Not from me.
With a young infield of Fielder, Weeks and Hardy and Bill Hall moving to the oufield, I knew that the Crew needed to sign a couple of reliable gloves. Both Tony and Craig can play at least three infield positions and both can give the Brewers some decent at bats. Counsell can move runners over and is a good bunter. Tony can be a tough out and has shown that he can get hot.
It would be great to see youngster Ryan Braun get some good AB's in Maryville. Obviously, he'd be a real longshot to make the team out of spring training. I would think that Melvin and company will give Braun many at bats at AAA this season. We'll see.
Kudos to Melvin, Ash and Yost for signing some reliable "leathernecks".
What say you?
