Yovani Gallardo Does It All, as Brewers Sweep Pirates

Yovani Gallardo struck out 11 batters yesterday afternoon at Miller Park. That's a personal best for Gallardo. Yovani pitched a complete game last Friday, and continues to keep opposing batters from scoring. He's given up only two runs in the past three games. In yesterday's game against the Pirates, Gallardo struck out the first nine batters to come to the plate.

What brought the Miller Park crowd to their feet was Gallardo's solo home run in the seventh inning yesterday afternoon. It was the only run scored by Milwaukee, but that was enough to defeat the Pirates. Ian Snell pitched a great game, but Gallardo gave up only two hits the entire day, and got the win. This was Milwaukee's 15th straight win against the Pirates. The last time Pittsburgh defeated Milwaukee was in late May of last year.

Tonight, Suppan will face Scherzer of the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks have struggled on the road, and Milwaukee needs to take advantage of that fact. Milwaukee has clawed their way back to a winning record, and is currently 3.5 games behind the Cardinals.
