Can an Umpire Throw a Fan Out of a Baseball Game?

Craig Councell
Can an umpire throw a fan out of a major league baseball game? Yes he can. Last night, after tossing two coaches and one player, Bob Davidson tossed a fan out of Miller Park. Davidson had heard enough of one fan's taunts at the Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina, so he gave him the hook. I guess the fan didn't know the taunting rules: Be clean. "Big Dummy" is one of my favorites, and it has never resulted in my being tossed.

As for the call during the double play, I have to agree with the call from the second base umpire Tim Timmons. Councell didn't even try to reach for the base pad. I have seen plenty of players slide that wide of the baseline, but they reach for the pad.
